Session description
The recently published new standard ISO/IEC 39075 GQL defines a unified graph database language inspired by Cypher and built upon the foundation of SQL. GQL boasts new features like a central object catalog, advanced pattern matching, richer type systems, and standardized error handling. This session explores GQL's capabilities and reveals how Neo4j Cypher is adapting to embrace this new standard.
Staff Engineer and GQL Editor, Neo4j
Stefan Plantikow is an expert in language design and standardization at Neo4j. As the project lead and editor for the new GQL standard (ISO/IEC 39075), he focused on language structure, type system, execution model, and pattern matching. Driven by a passion for accessible technology, Stefan significantly influenced the openCypher query language, co-developed the first cost-based planner for property graph databases, and contributed to Neo4j's driver suite, openCypher TCK, and Cypher for Apache Spark/Neo4j Morpheus. He holds a degree in Computer Science and is based in Berlin.
