#GraphCast: Numb3rs and Graph Theory

Welcome to this week’s #GraphCast – our series featuring what you might have missed in Neo4j media from the past fortnight.

Last time, Staff Writer Zaw Win Htet, showcased a short, 10-minute video that expertly breaks down what a graph database is.

Check out this tv show in which they use graph theory to solve crimes.

This week, I felt like going back in time to when data science wasn’t quite as defined or buzz worthy as it is today, back to the years between 2005-2010, to revisit the TV show Numb3rs. In this crime drama, a college mathematics professor and prodigy helps solve crimes for the FBI. Check out this snippet in which our mathematical protagonist throws down that Euler graph theory knowledge.

Actually, a number of episodes in this series feature graph theory, along with other things like probability and statistics, venn diagrams, differential equations and more! And of course, because the internet is always here to provide what we need, you can see how all the graph theory Numb3rs episodes play out (go here and scroll down to the graph theory section).

Bonus, here’s the show trailer – and then you’ll know for sure how exciting math truly is:
