This Week in Neo4j – Neo4j AuraDB Enterprise, HDBSCAN Clustering, Using RDF* with Neo4j

This was a big week for Neo4j AuraDB. First up was the launch of Neo4j AuraDB Enterprise, a version of the DBaaS aimed at large organisations building global-scale graph applications. You can learn more at the Connections: Neo4j and the Cloud event on 24th February 2021.

But I’m actually even more excited about Neo4j AuraDB FREE, which is coming soon. Don’t forget to add yourself to the waiting list to be notified when it’s ready.

Irfan Nuri Karaca – This Week’s Featured Community Member

Irfan has been part of the community for more than 6 years, initially working on a graph data visualisation and ETL tool at Kale Yazilim. He presented that work at GraphConnect 2016.

Irfan joined Neo4j in early 2017 and has been very busy in that time.

He worked on the first few versions of Neo4j Bloom, the graph visualisation tool, and was instrumental in the creation of NEuler, an education tool used to introduce users to the Graph Data Science Library.

More recently, Irfan worked on version 2 of Arrows, a graph drawing tool that has been used to design and prototype many graph projects.

Irfan is also one of the Lead Engineers on the Neo4j AuraDB team and has worked on both Neo4j on Google Cloud Platform and Neo4j AuraDB Enterprise, which was launched week.

On behalf of the Neo4j community, thanks for all your work Irfan!

OCS 2020 Keynote: Emil Eifrem, Co-Founder/CEO of Neo4j

Emil explains how the team came up with the idea of the graph database, created the graph database category, and educated the community on the power of graphs. He also describes the balance between open source and building a company, as well as how he sees the future of Neo4j.

What’s new in Bloom 1.5?


Neo4j Bloom 1.5 was released last month and Lju Lazarevic gives us the rundown of the new features and improvements.

This version of the library introduces the mini map to simplify graph navigation and a new style rule to uniquely colour nodes. There are also performance enhancements that significantly speed up the start time.

HDBSCAN Clustering with Neo4j


HDBSCAN is a clustering algorithm that identifies islands of closely related elements in a sea of noisy outliers.

In Nathan Smith’s latest post, he shows how to implement this algorithm using the GDS Library and APOC.

Neogma Nodes.js OGM, Gram Data Graph Format


    • Jason Athanasoglou released Neogma, an open source Object-Graph-Mapper for Node.js which utilizes TypeScript. In the blog post, Jason shows how to Create, Read, Update, and Delete nodes and relationships in Neo4j.
    • Will Reynolds gave some tips on getting started with graph databases during a Project Data Analytics meetup.
    • Andreas Kollegger launched Gram, a data graph format.

QuickGraph#14 Using RDF* with Neo4j


The prolific Jesús Barrasa has another QuickGraph post for us, in which he explains how to use RDF* with Neo4j.

RDF* is an extension to RDF that means triples can include a triple as a subject or an object. One advantage of this is that we can define properties on relationships.

In this post, Jesús shows how to both export a Neo4j graph in RDF* format, as well as import RDF* triples into Neo4j.
