Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Neo4j Bloom?
Bloom is a graph data visualization product that works out of the box with the Neo4j database. It has a number of powerful low-to-no-code features that let a variety of users, from data analysts to developers, to view and explore graph data. In addition to flexible search options and styling configurations, Bloom offers developer-friendly features, like search phrases and deep links, that allow for easy integration into workflows.
What is graph data visualization?
Graph data visualization is the practice of rendering and viewing graph data as nodes and the relationships between them. Graphs often have multiple types of nodes and relationships. As part of this, Bloom offers highly customizable styling options and the ability to interact with or even edit the data in your graph.
What are some real-world examples of graph data visualization?
Real-world examples are best viewed directly, and here are just a few:
  • https://covidgraph.org/ A knowledge graph of medical information related to COVID-19
  • https://www.musicroamer.com/ A graph that lets you explore related bands and artists
  • Here’s an example of a data model (how data is organized in the database) for a sample retail sales data set:
  • Other domains where graph data visualization is useful include social networks, recommendation engines, and flight networks. There are countless others.
Who benefits from having a graph data visualization tool?
Anyone who has connected data they’d like to explore or communicate to others, as well as anyone building solutions to help others make sense of their connected data. In general terms, Bloom is a useful tool for data scientists and analysts across multiple domains, as well as developers looking to understand data and build solutions for subject matter experts.
Does Neo4j Bloom work with any graph database?
Bloom only works with Neo4j, and it works right out of the box.
Is Bloom free to use?
There is both Bloom Basic Access for free and Bloom Full Access that works with Neo4j Enterprise edition and requires a server plugin. Bloom Full Access offers additional features, like the ability to connect to a remote instance of Neo4j, share perspectives, and save scenes. Is Bloom compatible with Neo4j AuraDB?
Yes! Bloom Basic Access is currently available in all Aura tiers as a beta offering for free. We’re working on bringing Bloom Full Access to interested Aura users in the future.
Is Bloom compatible with the Graph Data Science?
Bloom is a great companion to Neo4j Graph Data Science. For example, if you enrich nodes with GDSL outputs like centrality measures or community algorithms, you can apply rule-based styling in Bloom to easily visualize the results.
