Fika Interview with Lisa Cao

11 Feb, 2025

At Data Days Texas, Lisa C. from DataStrada shared how she built a thriving AI meetup in San Francisco, attracting top speakers and fostering deep technical discussions. Her secret? Focus on real architecture, not just vendor pitches—hence the name “Open Source Afterparty!”

Lisa’s day job is just as exciting. She works on Apache Gravitino, an open-source data catalog that helps teams manage metadata across different systems—think of it as the “catalog of catalogs.” AI and data engineering teams often work in separate stacks, and Gravitino helps bridge that gap.

With decentralized metadata becoming the norm, the challenge is making sense of multiple catalogs at once. Lisa predicts AI agents will interact directly with catalogs, enabling better governance and automation. Plus, Gravitino integrates with LlamaIndex, making it even easier for developers to tap into metadata.
