Graphversation Ep. 2 – Recommendation Engine in Ed-tech Using Neo4j & GDS

06 Apr, 2023

We are back with the 2nd episode of Graphversation, a monthly livestream series that brings graph experts and Neo4j ninjas for engaging and informative conversations about the fascinating world of graphs. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced developer in graphs, we are confident that you will find our conversations engaging, informative, and thought-provoking. In this episode, we have Joffin Joy who will walk us through his project titled, “SL O-Horizon: Enhancing Discovery On Beckn Enabled Open Networks Through Recommendations Using Neo4j & GDS”. This project was developed by him along with his team during Skill-A-Thon 1.0 launched by EkStep Foundation and DSEP (Decentralized Skilling and Education protocols) community. Joffin and his team’s project won in the Challenge 4 category titled: “Unlock opportunities for the next billion by building intelligent technology solutions to find and deliver services” of the hackathon. Here is a brief on the project developed by Joffin and his team: Open networks built in compliance with Beckn-Protocol enable consumer and producer platforms to discover, connect and transact with each other in a decentralized manner. One of the biggest challenges in such an open-network is the discovery of the most relevant resources, as independent consumers and producers are essentially isolated from each other. O-Horizon helps overcome this challenge by implementing a recommendation engine which leverages Neo4j & GDS. Using various techniques and algorithms, O-Horizon ensures that the quality of discovery no longer completely relies on user actions like manual-searches, but instead on the system’s collective intelligence which is constantly evolving. Speaker: Joffin Joy, Full-stack Developer @ TunerLabs – ShikshaLokam Joffin has been a full-stack developer at TunerLabs for close to 3 years now. Out of which, the past one and half years he has spent working with his client ShikshaLokam. Overall, his role involves developing backend systems, doing system and architecture design, taking on novel challenges and building organisational knowledge over newer or more specialised technologies and patterns. Over the years, he has worked with Javascript (Node & React) & Scala stacks which gives him a wider perspective on implementation choices and patterns. Host: Siddhant Agarwal, Tech Community Manager – APAC @ Neo4j With over 8 years of industry experience, Siddhant has literally spent his entire career in building, scaling and growing communities in India and has found his passion in launching ed-tech initiatives, design innovation, growing startup ecosystem and building for the next billion users. Siddhant has previously worked with Open Financial Technologies, Google, Beahead and IBM. A design thinker at heart, he loves working with startups and helping them scale in UX and improve their designs. Resources: 1. 2.
