iFood partners with Neo4j to solve order fraud

iFood used the Neo4j Graph Intelligence Platform to quickly identify complex order-fraud patterns, minimize losses, and protect the 870,000 jobs it supports.

Brazilian food delivery giant iFood had a major fraud problem: criminals collecting payouts on fake orders. To unravel the scheme, iFood needed to model multi-hop relationships between fraudulent customer accounts, complicit restaurants, transaction data, and more. It processes 120 million orders per month, and its database technology fell short.

iFood partnered with Neo4j to trace these complex connections, and the company quickly cut its losses by at least half. “We have a huge responsibility toward the drivers, the users, and also toward shopkeepers and restaurants,” says Nathalia Palazzo, Head of Fraud Prevention at iFood. “We’re going to protect the Brazilians.”
