Neo4j joins Linux Foundation for AI and Data

We’re proud to announce that Neo4j has joined the Linux Foundation for AI and Data (LFAI). LFAI, which started with the rise of deep learning, is the leading community organization for open-source software artificial intelligence (OSS AI). Its Generative AI Commons supports organizations looking to collaborate on ethical, open-source GenAI innovations.

As GenAI adoption accelerates, graph technology—and GraphRAG in particular—has become essential to overcoming the limitations of LLMs and building enterprise-grade GenAI applications. Pioneered by Neo4j, GraphRAG combines knowledge graphs with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). It’s a set of patterns, best practices, and tools that work together to enrich LLMs with business domain knowledge. 2025 will be the year of specialized models, domain expert agents, and structured output—all benefiting from knowledge graphs.

In this context, we think it’s incredibly important to lend our expertise to the collaborative project of building responsible and reliable open-source GenAI. Built by developers for developers, Neo4j has enjoyed the trust of developers for decades—a trust that has driven widespread global adoption and created a vibrant ecosystem of OSS integrations with leading GenAI tools, from LangChain and LlamaIndex to Milvus and Outlines.

LFAI membership builds on these relationships, bringing us together with a global community of open-source AI practitioners. By leveraging our graph expertise, Neo4j can help address the hardest problems in AI, and together, we’re building the OSS AI Knowledge Stack (OAKS), a big-tent collaboration among OSS innovators who build full-stack OSS AI.

We appreciate the welcome we’re receiving from our partners and LFAI members.

“At LlamaIndex, we’re building knowledge assistants with enterprise data, and GraphRAG is one of the best ways to do it,” says Jerry Liu, CEO and co-founder of LlamaIndex. “We’re thrilled to work together to build a broad coalition of OSS AI innovators leading to industry adoption of performant and responsible AI.”

The sentiment is echoed by Anni Lai, Chair of the Generative AI Commons. “AI is only as effective as the knowledge it applies,” she observes. “Neo4j’s LFAI membership brings decades of knowledge graph expertise, open-source leadership, and AI integrations. The Generative AI Commons is excited to accelerate building a broader, inclusive OSS AI ecosystem together.”

Christopher Nguyen, CEO and founder of Aitomatic, says, “By implementing our Domain Expert Agent’s expert knowledge bases through Neo4j’s knowledge graph architecture, we’re bringing structure to industrial expertise. This approach transforms how AI systems access and reason with domain knowledge, making expert-level insights systematically available across industrial applications.”

From the Neo4j Graph Academy to DeepLearning.AI courses, conference talks, meetups, and workshops, we’ve been moving the needle on GenAI adoption for years. By joining LFAI, we’re helping our customers and partners bring the power of OSS to tackle the most important task-facing software today: building performant, responsible AI.
